Safety Notice: Samsung Expands Recall to All Galaxy Note7 Devices

In light of recent events surrounding the Galaxy Note7, a smartphone that has been prone to overheat and pose a safety risk, manufacturer Samsung has announced an expanded voluntary recall on all original and replacement Galaxy Note7 devices sold or exchanged in the United States.

Samsung is asking consumers with a Galaxy Note7 to power the device down and contact the carrier or retail outlet where they purchased their device. The move is in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and in partnership with carriers and retailers.

Affected devices:

The expanded recall applies to all Galaxy Note7 devices – including the original and replacement. Those currently using a Galaxy Note7 are strongly encouraged to turn off the device immediately and participate in the U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program.

What you should do:

Due to the aforementioned overheating and safety risks associated with the Samsung Galaxy Note7, Bolton & Company advises those who own or use the phone to review the provided manufacturer notice above and proceed with Samsung’s suggestions for safe handling and replacement.

Consumers who have a Galaxy Note7 device can now exchange their phone for another Samsung smartphone or receive a refund under the terms of the expanded U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program.

If you are an employer, it is also advised that you share this information with your workforce.

From a safety perspective, we advise Note7 users to consider the following when determining how to handle this safety issue:

  1. Does your workforce work near or around any flammable, explosive or reactive material?
  2. Do you allow employees to carry mobile phones into warehouse, assembly or fabricating areas?
  3. Is fabrication, polishing or grinding done at your facility? Anything that can trigger a spark?

If any of the following apply to your operations, it would be reasonable to prohibit Samsung Galaxy Note7 phones on company property to protect your workforce from injury and property damage.

For office settings or operations without fabrication, chemicals, explosive or reactive materials, advise all employees with a Samsung Galaxy Note7 to power off the device while on the premises.

Refund:

Under the terms of the U.S. Note7 Refund and Exchange Program, Note7 owners have the following choices:

  1. Exchange your current Galaxy Note7 for another Samsung smartphone and replacement of any Galaxy Note7 specific accessories with a refund of the price difference between devices
  2. Obtain a refund at your point of purchase

Samsung is encouraging consumers to contact the carrier or retail outlet where they purchased their Galaxy Note7. If you bought your Galaxy Note7 directly from Samsung.com, visit their site. If you have any questions, contact Samsung at 1-844-365-6197.
